Gathering research from a survey

Image
Gathering research from a survey Daisy Jackson / 01/02/2022 After signing ethical documents, I have been able to create a survey which will help me gather the needed research for this project. Initially I wanted to survey children as I wanted to gain information on what particular age categories like and prefer to see. However, this was too complicated to pull off in such a limited time scale. Instead, I created a survey for adults who are parents/work with children. I did also include an option of 'none' but requested for the individual to provide answers based on their own childhood experience or what they would wish a child between the ages of 5-12 would like to see. On this page, I will attach images of the questions being asked and in a future post, I will reflect on the results (anonymously of course - won't mention names as the information gathered is confidential). It is important to note however, that my questions are not based off still illustrations but instead g...

One day projects - week 2 - 'Happy Birthday'

One day projects - week 2 - 'Happy Birthday' Daisy Jackson / 31/01/2022 For today's one day task, David assigned us the mini project of creating a 4 panel story involving the song 'Happy Birthday'. In comparison to last week, my creative thinking has definitely improved as more ideas rushed to my head during the brief. Here are my plans: Despite how morbid a lot of these ideas are, I find them quite comical as the characters themselves are very strange. I have always loved my lumpy style and wanted to encoorperate it into a few ideas. A lot of these ideas involved characters being crushed and the other character being left horrified. That is when I came up with my official idea of fruit in a blender. Unfortunately, these two pieces of fruit had no idea what was going to happen. I decided to create the final piece digitally as I felt I could have a lot of fun with this and test out my skills. Often, I usually draw in simple colours. However, with this piece I wanted ...

Gathering inspiration - Research

Gathering inspiration - Research Daisy Jackson / 26/02/2022 To further progress my research, I think another approach that I should greatly consider is looking into children's cartoon TV shows as well as books to help me gain inspiration for this project. I will be looking at animated TV shows as this will help with my animated component for the project. Growing up there have been several art styles that I love where I can also appreciate how they approach topics that may not be child friendly. Now, this of course leads you to the question of 'why are you looking into this when your target audience is children? Should you be mainly focusing on that?' The answer is yes, you are correct on that. However, taking Marie Curie as an example, her body is still radiated to this day. I could have a humerous take on that where perhaps her body is essentially killing those around her. This is definitely not 'child friendly' as death is involved, however, it can be easily twist...

Reflecting on the portrayal of guest appearances in cartoon TV shows

Reflecting on the portrayal of guest appearances in cartoon TV shows Daisy Jackson / 25/01/2022 To further my research on both George Washington and Marie Curie, I am looking into how cartoon TV shows portray guest appearances. I have decided to look into this as when featuring either a celebrity or a historical figure on a show, the main goal is to make it obvious to the audience who that individual is while also providing education. I think this is great for my research as it will allow me to think about how I present my characters when creating them and what elements to focus on. I will be analysing each video I see, reflecting on what I can/can't do. THE SIMPSONS: Click the image above for the video I watched!  In this video, 'The Simpsons Theory' goes through the top 5 best/worst Simpsons guest appearances that have aired on the show. I will be going through each one and discussing my thoughts on what they have done, if I could use their approach as well as how they ha...

Conclusion of research

Conclusion of research Daisy Jackson / 25/01/2022 Reflecting on my research on George Washington and Marie Curie, I am definitely leaning more towards Marie Curie. I acknowledge that I am able to focus on both of my historical figures rather than just one, however, I am unsure how much of a workload this will give me. I do not want to make the same mistake as last semester and run myself down again - I need to focus on my time management.  My reasoning as to why I am leaning more towards Marie Curie is that I am extremely fascinated in her history. When watching videos detailing her life I found myself interested and retaining information. Unfortunately, with George Washington, he did not provide me with the same effect. With Marie Curie, I can immediately think of numerous ideas that I could do which would be interesting to not only my target audience, but also me. I want myself to be inspired and interested in this so my decisions at this point are vital. However, this is just th...

George Washington - Research

George Washington - Research Daisy Jackson / 25/02/2022 In order to create successful illustrations based upon my given historical figures, it is urgent I research into their lives and who they were. This way, I will be able to visually present these characters in both an educational and interesting way. Here is my research on George Washington: *NOTE* The information found that I think is the most interesting and helpful, is in bold. Click above for the video on George Washington's childhood! - His face is on the one dollar bill - First president of United States - Born February 22nd, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia - George's family was not extremely wealthy or poor but were in a 'middling' class - George's father had a farm and worked hard to make it a success - On the farm, they grew tabacco and had a mill to grind wheat - When George was five, they moved up the Potomac river to the Creek plantation and then later to Fairy Farm where he spent most of his d...
