Creating my storyboard
Creating my storyboard
Daisy Jackson / 18/03/022
Today I decided to brainstorm ideas for a storyboard. This storyboard would be contributing to my introduction to animation module so I had to make sure I understood the concept and the idea I was going for.
Originally, my idea was going to be a more scenic animation - focusing on the surroundings and then narrating the death of Marie Curie’s husband Pierre. However, I decided to have a different approach to this idea.
The idea below is my original storyboard:
I decided not to go with this idea as it was too bland for me. Yes, the angles were interesting and narrated the story in a dramatic and cinematic way but it was lacking some kind of substance.
During yesterday’s animation session (17/03/2022), Matt wanted us to write down our plans. I acknowledge I should have already had a clear idea at this point but I wanted to take this week to round up everything else (life drawing, reflections etc). This is when I thought of the idea of a fight scene. I wanted to create an animation that involves Marie Curie, Pierre and the horse that killed Pierre all in one animation. Creating a rotoscope animation of a movie fight scene can help me with angles, cinematic and will also add humour as I can add the audio clip over the top. The humour comes from the fact the ‘bad guy’ in the clip will feature a horses head.
I really enjoy adding creative spins onto things. Adding a creative spin on a movie scene already excites me. I acknowledge that this is a lot of work but I am willing to put in the time and effort in the next 7 weeks.
I took this fight scene from the movie ‘Extraction’. The scene I took was a Paul Duke fight scene. This movie was perfect as it is straight forward with the way the fight is produced as well as including another character that I can change into Marie Curie.
I will be creating this animation on Procreate.
Some may say that rotoscoping is ‘easy’ and ‘simple’. However, I disagree. My experience using rotoscoping in the past and during this semester has been more challenging than I originally thought. There is a lot of time and effort required. I acknowledge that I am using a moving clip, however, I am manipulating this movie clip into my own animation and adjusting characters - therefore making it harder.
As for colour, this will be the final step as I can add colour underneath all the layers once I am finished. However, I am thinking of a black and white scheme for dramatics. If I want to add colour, I will more than likely add ‘splashes’ of it as this will emphasise particular areas.
Here is my final storyboard:
