Visual application session - Character designs

Visual application session - Character designs

Daisy Jackson / 01/02/2022

For today's session, we were assigned a small exercise in groups to document 5 interesting facts about each of our historical figures. This way, we were able to see which information was most interesting as well as allowing us to identify what we can research next.

Here are the photos from today:

Doing this, allowed me to reflect on my research and provide me with focus points. For example, a great idea for an illustration could be focusing on Marie Curie's husband Pierre, who was unfortunately killed by a horse and carriage. I will of course include Marie Curie herself in the drawing but I could have a setting where the horse is being arrested or in therapy due to the incident. This would definitely capture the attention of children! I did not think of this idea until today so I would definitely say that the tasks assigned today have been very helpful!

After this, we looked further into character design. We had to make our own shapes (or use predone ones) and create a series of character/animals/people with the negative/positive space. I remember doing this task in my Foundation year and I was able to create a new character from it! It is a very helpful technique and I definitely enjoyed using it today. I really enjoyed creating my own narratives as well as exercising my brain.

Here are the results of today:
