Creating book covers
Creating book covers

Since my plan is to finish the book in the next two weeks so I have more time for the animation module, I thought it would be a good idea to figure out what the front cover would be.
I definitely wanted to include the characters from within the book as the different variations would definitely be appealing to the audience and also let them know what is inside it.
Here are my designs:
This idea is definitely better as it is more visually appealing. There are more visuals on the front and less space. However, there is a lack of pattern in the background and I am not very fond of the font chosen as it seems to be adult-like. It gives me the vibe of a random GCSE science book rather than a book aimed at an audience of children. I still feel like there needs to be more to it as it is quite bare in regards to visuals.
Same as the second plan but a change in font and an added pattern for the background. Definitely 'fills in the gaps' as immediately with these changes it appears more full. However, I feel like I need something more - maybe another character?
My official designs:
I am very happy with these results as it appears quite professional! Using the mix and match book called 'Farm Animals' as a reference, I was able to position everything correctly and to a professional standard - as well as including some creativity in regards to the production/publishing! I feel like the colour balance is great and there is enough going on at the front where it is engaging to look at. The spine being red and contrasting with the blue is also another aspect I love - and the addition of mini illustrations on the spine. I feel like all the information added is straightforward and informative - the reader knows what to expect. The font is child friendly and appealing as well as the colours used. I personally would not improve anything as everything included pleases me. Introducing new illustrations to the cover would not be beneficial as I essentially want the reader to have a sneak peak into the book.
