Looking at other mix and match books for reference

Daisy Jackson / 06/03/2022

Friday (05/03/2022) I ordered the book called 'Farm Animals Mix and match' by Sophie Corrigan. I decided to purchase this book as I wanted to have inspiration for my own.

When looking through Corrigan's book, I noticed many different features which made it extremely interesting and engaging for children.

- The names of the animals could be mixed

- The animals themselves could be mixed

- There was annotations included surrounding the animals

- Pleasing colour range

All of these features contributed towards the presentation of the book. Even I enjoyed looking through it! Of course with this concept of farm animals, Corrigan had more creative flexibility in comparison to me as I am looking at the different stages of radiation - this limits me to so many pages. However, I was only planning to do perhaps under 10 pages overall. Including my mix and match pages, I am also adding a few introduction pages that personally address the reader. As well as this, I will be working on a front cover which will be professionally made.

We are having a bookbinding session on Monday (08/03/2022). I am looking forward to this session as I will find out more about presentation. I was thinking of using a mixture of card and paper to make my flip book more interesting.

As for titles of the book, I have thought of the name 'The stages of radiation with Marie Curie' as this is simple and straight to the point. This is yet to be official though.

I have also bought bookbinding rings which are all multi coloured and will appeal to the audience as well as the general apeparance of the book. These will be apart of my prototype as I will be able to accurately make a rough mix and match book to see what it will be like. This will also help me problem solve.

What I plan to do next?

My next plan of action is to make a prototype. This will include the front cover as well as everything that is going in the inside. After this, I will then begin to work on my official book.

Once this is completed, I will be able to focus on the animation part of the module and dedicate a lot of time to that as well as I feel like I have not paid enough attention to developing my animation skills - which I should really do! This will provide me with more time to experiment.
